    Metalmoments on Metalcamp:

    About the place:

Metalcamp is located in a beautiful spot in the Slovenian mountains close to the river Soca. In close vicinity to the festival- and camping area lies the town Tolmin, no more than a few minutes away by foot. The town is filled with restaurants, pizza (best ones in the world by our account) and a well stocked supermarket.
All people are kind, and happy to help all of us half-drunk, half-bewildered foreigners. Language has not been a problem for us, since all the people we have encountered have had no problem conversing in English.

    About travelling:

We have been to Metalcamp for some years now, and have tried two different ways of travel to get us there.
The first year we used Festivalbussen, a Swedish bus company driving metalheads to several different festivals in Europe. This was a very convenient way to go, since we had been a bit worried about things like distance and how to find our way. By getting on a bus, we could just leave all such worries in someone else's hands, and just sit back and enjoy the ride. This let us take in the scenes of the country site, of which there are many along the road.
The second year we had a few more festivals we were going to visit, and therefore we opted for the car instead, as it gave us a bit more freedom as to times and such. Since we had taken the bus the year before, we had the advantage of being able to recognize several spots along the way, and so we had no problem finding our way.

    About prices:

Well, compared to Denmark, where we come from, prices are most agreeable, and we have no problem surviving with all the comforts we could hope for during the whole festival, and beyond. Oh, and since the Danish crown is less worth than the Euro, I would guess that other countries won't have any complaints either.

    Metalcamp on Metalcamp (2008):

People always have dreams and they believe their dreams could come true some day. When thinking about the origins of Slovenia's biggest and most famous metal fest, Metalcamp, we must think about a group of enthuziasts who not only believed their dream would come true, but they made sure their dreams became reality.

It was the summer of 2004 when first Metalcamp occured at the beautiful location just by the Soca river in the northwestern Slovenia. Among the timeless mountains, huge forrests, two beautiful rivers, this location was - and still is - out of this world and definitely the most beautiful for a metal fest. Being kinda small, this fest still featured huge names and some even exclusively. Among them Danzig, Hypocrisy, Destruction, Hypocrisy, Green Carnation and many many more. It was kind of nice and natural birth. All forces of Metal gathered their energy to make a group of metal enthusiasts dream come true.

2005 was a real test of this metal monster. They say that second year makes or breaks up a band. Well, mind that we're not talking bands, but a festival. Well, anyway it still suits the situation. Metalcamp was tested - two stages, bigger camp, thousands or more of people, extremely nicer and hotter weather and of course - huge metal legends. Obituary, Soufly, Anthrax, Kreator, Slayer etc. It was unbelieveable. 3 days of metal were really equal to any definition of metal paradise. Without a doubt, the best year.

Until 2006. When lucky streak gets going, it doesn't stop. Well, lots of people work hard to make this phrase come true. 2006 was an incredible year with some exclusive shows by such acts as Dimmu Borgir, Children Of Bodom, Dissection (one of the last shows before Jon's death), Opeth, Amon Amarth, Kataklysm etc.

2007 was one more step ahead. The festival evolved into METAL HOLIDAYS, becoming probably the only festival on the face of the Earth to last 7 days! Man, can you believe - 7 days of metal, beer, holidays, nice weather, crazy metalheads, tons of bands and of course - metal?!! Too great to be true, but it still is. No one could forget the incredible shows performed by Doro, Sepultura, Sodom, Blind Guardian, Dismember, the almighty Immortal, Satyricon, Aborted, Korpiklanni, and nearly 100 other metal acts from all over the world.

It is the year 2008 and in just one months time, the 5th birthday of Metalcamp will take place. 5 years of Metalcamp? Man, that has to be one of the biggest metal parties this part of Europe will witness. Just check out the facts - the peak of summer, the best and the most beautiful location in nature, three stages, tons of bands, 7 heavy days and of course metal acts such as the return of Morbid Angel, revitalised and stronger than ever Iced Earth, unstoppable In Flames, Soilwork, evil Marduk, blasphemic Behemoth, Tankard, unpredictible Opeth, Six Feet Under, unbeliveable Messhugah, Ministry's last tour, the reincarnation of Carcass...

Just to wrap it up: Metalcamp, Slovenia will be happening between 3rd and 9th of July this year. It is by far one of the best festivals in the region and if you miss this, there surely will be one thing you'll regret when you meet your death. Period!
